It was through music that we became filmmakers. Our background and
training was in music, not in film. Musicians know by instinct that a wonderful
sound recording and a great sounding mix will make a film “look” better. From
the start of our filmmaking careers, we always taken the position that it’s
best to lose a camera position than to compromise on the audio. We always
personally overseen the recording of all of our films and on occasion, we will
produce live audio recordings for artists.
In 2000, François teamed up with Denis Normandeau with whom he has been
mixing since. François and Denis were pioneers in 5.1 and surround audio
mixing. Their first surround mix project was “Willie Nelson – Live in
Amsterdam” which was then followed by “Pete Townshend – Music from Lifehouse”.
The Willie Nelson project won “Best Audio” at the 2001 DVDA Excellence Awards
and the Pete Townshend project won “Best Audio Mix” at the 2002 Surround Music
Awards. This was the start of a prolific body of work, which continues to this
day.
In addition to his film projects where he oversees all audio production from recording to mastering,
François regularly produces live audio recordings. Here is a partial list of
artists he has produced:
Nickelback Rihanna The Who Maroon 5 Akon Korn
Rammstein Machine Head Slipknot Deep Purple Bad Religion Megadeth
Anti-Flag Reel Big Fish Theory of a Deadman Corey Taylor Airbourne
